Logistics Manager

About This Career

Logistics Managers manage logistics personnel and systems, as well as direct daily operations. They plan, direct and coordinate with purchasing, warehousing, distribution, forecasting, customer service and planning services. This management role is best suited to professionals who are extremely organized, analytical and possess strong negotiating skills. 

Education: A post-secondary diploma or degree in business administration, commerce or economics is typically required, along with several years of experience in Supply Chain Logistics or Distribution.  Sufficient experience may offset the formal education requirements

Employment: This occupation is found in onshore and offshore environments and is typically employed in the exploration and production (E&P) and oil sands, oil and gas services and pipeline sectors.  

Example titles: Global Logistics Manager, Integrated Logistics Programs Director, Logistics Solution Manager, Supply Chain Logistics Manager, Contract Manager

Applying Health and Safety Principles
Maintaining a safe work environment for all employees while complying with all local, provincial and federal safety and environmental regulations, as well as company guidelines.
Coordinating the Work and Activities of Others
Collaborating with other departments to integrate logistics with business systems or processes, such as customer sales, order management, accounting or shipping of inbound/outbound supplies.
Determining Compliance
Ensuring carrier compliance with company policies or procedures for product transit or delivery.
Maintaining Relationships
Maintaining relationships with internal and external clients.
Organizing, Planning and Prioritizing Work
Planning and implementing material flow management systems to meet production requirements.
Thinking Creatively
Establishing or monitoring specific supply chain-based performance measurement systems.
