Working in Oil & Gas

Geologists (NOC 2113)

Geologist jobs within this classification search for underground oil and gas deposits by using knowledge of rock patterns and the earth's formations to predict where best to drill. More specifically, Geologists identify and examine rocks, use data from existing wells; study information collected by remote sensing instruments in satellites; conduct geological surveys; analyze information collected through seismic studies; and develop surface and subsurface maps to locate oil and gas reserves. Marine Geologists study and map the ocean floor, collecting information using remote sensing devices aboard surface ships or underwater research crafts. The majority of work conducted by Exploration Geologists is at the exploration stages of industry workflows.
