Find a Job in Oil and Gas
Where do you start looking for a job in oil and gas?
First, figure out what job or career you're looking for. If you're unsure, try our Choose Your Future Interactive Quiz to identify careers that fit your interests, skills and education.
Once you've selected a job or career, find out what sector of the industry it fits into, such as exploration and production, drilling, pipelines, oil sands or offshore. This will really help you narrow down your job search. Our Career Options section provides details on the various careers and how they each fit within the industry.
Finally, research what companies in that sector hire for your chosen position. The trade associations that represent each sector list all their member companies – and sometimes post jobs too. You can find all the industry associations listed on the Petroleum HR Council website's Industry Links page. You can also check out our Featured Employers, which are listed by sector. One of those companies or organizations may be just the right match for your interests, skills and experience!
Here's an example. Let's say you'd like to become a Well Services Operator. Well Services is part of the service, supply and manufacturing sector of the oil and gas industry. That sector is represented by the Petroleum Services Association of Canada (PSAC) and Energy Services BC. Both PSAC and Energy Services BC feature job postings on their websites. Some of our Featured Employers in the service, supply and manufacturing sector may also have openings for Well Services Operators.
