Seismic
During a seismic survey, the crew lays out sensitive recording equipment, called "geophones," on the ground. Using underground explosions or mechanical vibrations on the surface, they record the seismic waves that are reflected from the rock formations beneath.
Then, the seismic data is processed with powerful computers and specialized software. The result is an image of underground structures and rock features that may contain crude oil or natural gas.
Most of the work in the seismic sector is done outdoors. Employees work in crews, moving from location to location.
Canadian Association of Geophysical Contractors (CAGC)
